Sculpted from a block of 18K rose gold or stainless steel, the 42.7mm case of the Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph shows off a striking polished finish that highlights the intricacy of the various components. The chronograph pushpieces and protected winding crown are decorated with polished black titanium elements, and the precisely rotating unidirectional bezel captures the eye with its appealing, intricate contrast between polished metal and patterned rubber. All of these elements highlight the three-dimensional pull of the finely crafted dials, which are distinguished by the raised chronograph counters, and brushed wedge-shaped hour markers, and skeletonized hands.
Thanks to bold applications of superluminova material, the Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph watch is extremely easy to read under less than ideal conditions--an important consideration for any timepiece designated for sports. Equally important to a watch which accompanies adventure on the high seas is a high degree of water resistance; with a 200-meter rating, this Ulysse Nardin watch certainly delivers on all counts, being suitable for actual dive use. A sapphire crystal caseback window is incorporated into the screw-secured caseback, which allows connoisseurs to appreciate the various mechanical structures of the movement. Based upon a Valjoux caliber, the movement has been carefully reworked by the Ulysse Nardin watchmakers specifically for the bi-compax chronograph indications. A balance wheel frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour allows the chronograph to time sequences with 1/8 second precision. Fully wound, this automatic movement has an autonomy of 42 hours.
