Robin Wright Penn: No Thanks Required

Upon winning the 2009 Academy Award for Best Actor, Sean Penn jumped out of his seat, only to be kissed immediately, by wife Robin Wright Penn. Sean Penn’s outstanding performance as gay political activist Harvey Milk, won him the Academy’s highest honor (for those of you counting at home, this is Penn’s SECOND best actor award: he also won in 2004 for Mystic River). After making his way on stage to accept his statue, Penn made a touching speech, thanking friends, cast and crew from the film Milk. Absent from the thank you list? Wife, Robin! Seems many people were shocked by this – How could he forget to thank his WIFE…she is right there!
No need to assume the on again off again marriage between Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn is again in trouble Quite the contrary. While discussing the possibility of winning (while still at home, ahead of the awards), Robin says they discussed his speech, and felt there wouldn’t be enough time to add her to the thank you list. Sean Penn later told Oprah, “With Robin comes my Mother, my son and daughter, half of whom would punish me if I mentioned them!” Turns out Robin Wright Penn didn’t feel short changed at all. “She knows” Sean told interviewers afterwards.
Looking like a winner herself, Robin Wright Penn wore a simple black evening gown from Monique Lhuillier, and glowed in Ares diamond dangle earrings from H. Stern’s Red Carpet Collection and a sizable H. Stern diamond cuff bracelet. We’d like to thank Robin, for bringing a little classic Hollywood glamour back to the awards show!
