Maggie Gyllenhaal: A Knight to Remember!

In the world of movies, rarely is a sequel as well received as the original. There are of course, a few exceptions; the Godfather II and The Empire Strikes Back come to mind. Well, a third may soon be added to this list: The Dark Knight. A follow up to 2005’s critically praised Batman Begins; The Dark Knight is already garnering praise and potential Oscar buzz.
As in Batman Begins, the dual role of Batman and Bruce Wayne is played by Christian Bale. The role of Rachel Dawes (Bruce Wayne’s love interest), originally played by Katie Holmes, is now played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Maggie, more often associated with art house movies, quirky Indie roles and her Agent Provocateur lingerie ads, is a terrific addition to this primarily male cast. Reprising his role as the butler is Michael Caine, and of course the role receiving the majority of attention and praise, is that of the Joker, played brilliantly by Heath Ledger. After walking the black carpet at the movie’s premiere in New York, Heath Ledger’s family and co-stars paid tribute to the late actor, before the screening began.
Seen here, Maggie Gyllenhaal attended the movie’s premiere with fiancé Peter Sarsgaard. In contrast to the dark and ominous tone of the film, Maggie looked summery and light in this black floral gown by Dries Van Noten. She wore simple yellow gold drop earrings, and a very feminine yellow gold art deco cuff bracelet with a flower motif. Looking like this she may well be able to give super models AND super heroes a run for their money!
