Katie Holmes: The Primaries
|
Fashion and Hollywood came together recently at The New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, to celebrate the gala opening of the Costume Institute’s 2008 exhibition. This fashion extravaganza is New York’s party of the year, rivaling even the Oscars for both its guest list and its style.
This year’s theme was “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy,” and while most celebrities opted for a glamorous look over anything slightly resembling a superhero costume, Katie Holmes managed to have a bit of fun, blending the two. Seen here, Katie Holmes is a vision in primary colors: Red, Blue and yellow gold…could she be channeling her inner Wonder Woman?
The evening’s honorary chairman was Italian designer Giorgio Armani, and there were plenty of celebrities only too happy to don his designs for the event: Julia Roberts, George Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham, and of course longtime fans, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. While Tom Cruise looked handsome in his midnight blue Armani tux, it was really Katie’s look that attracted the most attention. From Armani’s Fall 1993 collection, her vintage gown featured a bright red iridescent sequined bustier, with a full ball gown skirt, trimmed in satin ribbon. She wore a beautiful multi strand yellow gold necklace and a wide yellow gold cuff bracelet. Her bright blue Christian Louboutin pumps added flair and whimsy to this sophisticated look, and gave a bit of a wink towards the evening’s theme.
How would you vote on this gown? Does Katie Holmes look like a glamorous Superhero, or an 80’s Prom Queen?
