Julia Roberts is finally returning to the big screen this month, opposite Clive Owen in the crime thriller Duplicity. Julia has taken on very few movie roles recently (her last big screen appearance was in 2008’s Charlie Wilson’s War opposite Tom Hanks), preferring to be a ‘star-at-home’ Mom to her 3 children with husband Danny Moder. Despite not appearing in many films, Julia is still noted as the gold standard in Hollywood: the actress all other actresses are compared to for sheer star power. “She’s the next Julia Roberts” has been said about several up and comers (Reece Witherspoon comes to mind), and at last, Julia has returned herself, to defend her status as the Golden Girl.
In Duplicity, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen play former government spies, now working for rival companies in competitive intelligence, out to steal each other’s secrets. Seen here at the film’s London premiere, Julia Roberts appears to still be in character. In her clean cut Dolce & Gabbana black suit, and simple yellow gold hoop earrings, she could almost pass for a business woman more than the biggest movie star in Hollywood. Where’s the glamour? Where’s the red carpet gown and extravagant diamond jewelry? Though we have seen her dressed to the 9’s in the past (she is an admitted fan of Giorgio Armani), Julia just prefers to keep her life and her look more low key. Is it just me, or does Clive Owen’s star appear to be shining a bit more brightly than Julia’s on this red carpet?
