Hugh Laurie: The Doctor is In
|
Hugh Laurie may be one of the most multi talented artists of our generation. An accomplished actor of stage, screen and TV, he is also a, composer and writer; his second book The Paper Soldier comes out this fall. It seems there is nothing Hugh can’t do! Perhaps best known for playing Dr. Gregory House on Fox’s award winning medical TV drama, House, Hugh Laurie is about to flaunt his medical skills on the big screen, in 3-D!
In the new animated 3-D movie Monsters vs. Aliens, Hugh Laurie again plays a doctor, though this time, instead of being an acerbic medical genius at a teaching hospital, he will play Dr. Cockroach, PhD, who is known to be the “greatest mind on the planet, protected by an indestructible exoskeleton.” Again with the thick skinned doctor roles! Monsters vs. Aliens is a comic adventure, reminiscent of alien movies of the 1950s. Along with Hugh Laurie, co-stars Reece Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Kiefer Sutherland and Stephen Colbert play a cast of colorful characters and mutant heroes, recruited to save the earth from aliens.
Out promoting his new film, Hugh Laurie recently appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman. Unshaven and comfortably dressed he didn’t look unlike Dr. Gregory House. He seems a very reluctant celebrity, or at the very least, a tortured interview. However, being British, Hugh tends to gesture a great deal as he speaks, which makes him very entertaining to watch. And watch we can: as Hugh waves his arms, gesticulating to emphasize every point, we are constantly getting glimpses of his Hamilton Khaki Field watch! The stainless bezel and black face on a black leather strap gets almost as much “face time” as Hugh does. Thanks for showing us your personal style, Hugh! In fact, looking back at old photos and old tapes, you can see that Hugh Laurie has been wearing this same Hamilton watch for years, regardless of his attire or character being played.
Perhaps someone with as many different talents and as much success as Hugh Laurie should have more than one timepiece in his collection. What would you recommend for the good doctor?
For an interesting twist on the classic Hamilton look, consider:
Chopard Mille Miglia GMT Chrono
IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Titanium
Bovet Fleurier
Bell & Ross BR-01
Need your help on this one.
