Helen Mirren: Hollywood Royalty
|
When it comes to guessing who may be nominated in 2006 for Best Actress, you would be hard pressed to find a list WITHOUT Helen Mirren’s name on it. Seems she is a shoo-in for her portrayal as Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie, The Queen. It can be interesting and challenging to play the role of a person still living, but when that person is the Queen? Wow. Helen has had first hand experience though – she was named a Dame of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth herself, during the Queen’s birthday honors in 2003.
This was not Helen Mirren’s first round with royalty either.
In 2005, she played the role of the first Queen Elizabeth, in the TV miniseries Elizabeth I. In fact, she is the only actress in history to have played both roles.
Here we see Helen Mirren at one of the premieres for The Queen. A fan of Fred Leighton jewelry, she is seen here wearing a diamond and ruby lariat.
Do you think Helen Mirren’s portrayal of the Queen is a fair one? What do you think the REAL Queen would think?
Need your help on this one.
