Eva Longoria: Desperate for Earrings!
|
The New York Metropolitan Museum of Art was temporarily transformed recently into a galaxy of glamour. The reason? The 2008 Costume Institute Gala, marking the opening of this season’s exhibition with a celebration of fashion.
Celebrities and fashionistas alike came from far and wide to attend this event, said to be the most glamorous party of the year in New York City. It was a veritable “Who’s who” as hundreds of paparazzi and television crews fought for photos and interviews. Designers and celebrities walked the red carpet hand in hand celebrating the evening’s theme of “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy”
And while designer to the stars Giorgio Armani was the evening’s honorary chairman, there were plenty of other designers on hand as well. Many accompanied their celebrity muses down the red carpet; Stella McCartney arrived with model Kate Moss, Marc Jacobs with Sofia Coppola, and Zac Posen escorted actress Kate Mara. Proving that fashion can show a sense of humor, Zac Posen wore an electric blue tuxedo with red bow tie, while Marc Jacobs chose to be more undercover with his superhero worship, claiming to be wearing Superman underwear!
Eva Longoria, pictured here, was a vision in aubergine: both her Marchesa gown and her matching Jimmy Choo velvet clutch were a very rich purple. The dress design was a true confection of curly pleated ruffles with a full skirt and train. Eva was accompanied on the red carpet by Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, and she even enlisted her stylist to trail behind her, to assist with the train. While Eva Longoria definitely represented fashion and fantasy in this look, she required the super power of x-ray vision from all of her escorts, when she managed to lose her yellow gold and diamond earrings while on the red carpet. Talk about a Desperate Housewife! Once the baubles were found and back in place, Eva Longoria looked Marvel-ous!
Eva’s earrings seem a little underwhelming for such a glamorous gown. I think dramatic chandelier earrings might have been a better choice. What do you think?
