An obsession with mechanical sophistication is shared by the creators of both automobiles and watches. It is no wonder then, that many who love high-performance cars find equal fascination with fine watches. These select timepieces pay tribute to the spiritual connection between fine watchmaking and the art of high performance road machines.
In a case crafted from 18K rose gold or titanium, the P6613 Rattrapante from Porsche Design features a complex automatic winding chronograph which allows the measurement of split times. A press of the pushpiece at 10 o’clock halts one of the superimposed central hands, enabling the timing of two separate events; actuating the pushpiece again instantaneously reunites the twin hands of the chronograph.
Made to commemorate the famous Italian race, the Mille Miglia GMT-Chronograph from Chopard is both luxurious and sporty. Driven by a rugged automatic-winding movement, this elegantly masculine stainless steel watch features a chronograph and an independently adjustable second time zone indication. The specially made rubber strap is embossed with the pattern of Dunlop’s famous racing tire tread from the 1960’s.
Conceived in partnership with Mercedes Benz-AMG of Afalterbach, Germany, this special edition of the IWC Ingenieur employs the high-tech material titanium, with automatic winding movements designed to withstand the most rigorous use. Available in either a basic automatic with date, or a chronograph, the Ingenieur AMG is both highly water resistant and protected against magnetism.
