Channel set rings are one of the most desirable styles of diamond rings. Most consumers’ first experience with diamond jewelry involves a diamond engagement ring or diamond earrings. These single stone settings while attractive are much easier to design and manufacture than channel set rings. A channel set ring is a ring that has a channel (or groove) set in the middle or side, with precious gemstones set in the channel, these gemstones must be set in a perfect continuous line to achieve e desired affect. This is the beauty and challenge behind the design and creation of a channel set ring. Channel Set Rings are commonly known as Eternity Rings.
If you take the time to closely examine the diamonds, rubies or sapphires set in the channel, you can notice the difference between a perfect and one that is not perfect. The designer and his jeweler must not only select high quality gemstones to fit in the channel, but each stone must have the exact same proportions. If any one stone is not identical to all the others in the channel setting then the entire row of diamonds (rubies, sapphires, emeralds) must be removed. Then the jeweler must reset the stones from the begging, sometimes even having to recast the setting itself.
The beauty of the channel set ring is the look. To see a continuous row of precious gemstones set in perfect harmony around the ring is a much more sophisticated look than a solitaire ring. Jewelry designers are expanding their creativity recently, offering a much larger variety and channel set designs. You can opt for the classic channel that flows around the entire circumference of the ring. Other designs include two channels set on either side of a solitaire diamond. Recently the hi end designers have been producing channel set rings with two smaller rows of diamonds on the outside, separated by the metal of the setting in the middle.
