Bovet Sportster Saguaro Meteorite Chronograph Watch
The compelling beauty of meteorite dials provide a particularly exotic dimension to the exquisite Sportster Saguaro Chronograph by Swiss watchmaker Bovet. Introduced in 2009, these Bovet timepieces share the same technical characteristics as other Sportster Saguaro models, including 46mm cases in stainless steel, steel with a black PVD treatment, or 18K red gold. As with other Bovet watches, the impeccably crafted cases showcase the pocket watch styled bow at 12 o'clock, flanked by the screw-down chronograph pushers. In the Sportster models, these rugged elements provide water resistance to an impressive depth of 300 meters.

The dials of the Bovet Sportster Saguaro Meteorite watches are unique masterpieces supplied by the cosmos and worked over expertly by hand. The origin of the material is a four billion-year old meteorite, made up predominantly of iron, which caromed through the atmosphere to land in Namibia. Discovered in 1836, it came to be known as the "Gibeon", and scientists traced its origins to the asteroid belt between the planets of Mars and Jupiter. The remarkable texture of this piece of the universe is due to its composition of elements--iron comprises 90% of the Gibeon meteor's content, with 8%nickel, and considerably smaller traces of cobalt and phosphorus. To prepare the meteorite into a finished dial, an artisan first saws the material, then polishes and bathes the final surface with an acid treatment to reveal the so-called "Widmanstatten" patterns that show the compositional structure of iron and nickel. The inherent beauty of the meteorite dial is further enhanced by applied hour markers, chronograph subdial borders, and skeletonized hands in red gold, as well as a sinuous central chronograph hand with an elaborate serpentine form.

Animating the Bovet Sportster Saguaro chronograph is a self-winding Swiss movement with a power reserve of 45 hours. A Debois-Depraz module is fitted to the base caliber, allowing for a harmonious arrangement of subdials in which small seconds are oriented at 6 o'clock and chronograph minutes and hours reside at 9 and 3 o'clock respectively. Above the Bovet signature at 12 o'clock is the red gold bordered large date indicator. This handsome feature offers a particularly clear and elegant readout of the widely appreciated calendar function.

Each Bovet Sportster Saguaro Meteorite timepiece features sapphire crystals on both front and back, the latter allowing a view into the precise workings of the mechanical movement. In accord with the sporty refinement of this Bovet creation, straps are in wave-textured rubber. Flexible, durable, and resistant to moisture, they connect securely to their owner via buckles manufactured from 18K red gold, or stainless steel.
