The Grand Complication is one of the loftiest achievements in all of watchmaking, as prized by collectors as it is held in awe by the few watchmakers capable of constructing one. For a timepiece to be classified as a Grand Complication it must have a perpetual calendar (typically also with moonphase indication), a split-second flyback chronograph and a minute repeater. Some Manufactures have gone well beyond the minimum requirements, taking haute horologerie (fine watchmaking) to new levels of complexity by implementing other spectacular horlogical inventions such as the tourbillon, the equation of time, or a rotating heavenly map.
